Veneto Region launches New Family Help Centre with dedicated rooms, doctors, psychotherapists, and voluntary couples

Treviso, November 25th - On Sunday, November 25th, the New Family Help Centre was inaugurated in Treviso to support families in all their phases of life. Launched by the Veneto Region, the director of the Don Francesco Pesce Centre and representatives of religious and civil institutions, including Bishop Gianfranco Agostino Gardin, local politicians and business associations were also present.

The opening ceremony was followed by a debate on the theme of the family. Those taking part included Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, President of the Pontifical Academy for Life; Francesco Benazzi general manager of the Local Health Authority and Don Edoardo Algeri of the Confederation of Christian-inspired clinics. Luciano Moia, editor in chief of Avvenire, “With families for families” moderated the theme of the debate.

Msgr. Paglia noted that with globalization and 'the collapse of us' (title of Msgr Paglia’s latest book) the family, birth rates and society have entered a crisis. The family constitutes the place where we learn to live and experience differences in an atmosphere of peace and is today a sector of priority commitment for the Church.  Benazzi noted that instead, the family is at a fragile crossroads and at the whim of the current individualist culture, it becomes the place of contrast, losing the value of solidarity that starts out as recognition of the other. Don Edoardo Algeri recalled the role of both public and private consultants, services able to give current answers to the ever-changing manifestation of the needs of families.

Don Francesco Pesce, director of Family Centre, said that the Clinic was born of the desire of some families who wanted to help care for other families, taking on what Pope Francis has often reminded us: that we are all connected. The New Centre is in fact qualified to work in the social-health field, to respond to the growing needs of family life today. The Family Centre has created a solidarity fund to offer services for the poorest families free of charge with the simple presentation of the declaration of income.
