On January 21, 2021, Pope Francis authorized the Congregation for the Causes of Saints to promulgate the Decree concerning
- the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Jérôme Lejeune, Faithful Layman; born on 13 June 1926 in Montrouge (France) and died in Paris (France) on 3 April 1994.
The Servant of God Jérôme Lejeune was the first President of the Pontifical Academy for Life in 1994.
We accompany the Lejeune family in prayer and all those who have drawn inspiration and benefit from the work of this distinguished scientist and man of faith.
The President of the Pontifical Academy for Life, Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, stated that "January 21 is the important day in which the depth of the faith life of a scientist who inspired Saint John Paul II to establish the Pontifical Academy for Life is acknowledged".
