Today, 10 October, World Mental Health Day offers an opportunity to reflect on mental suffering and the importance of care. These questions will be at the heart of the General Assembly of the Pontifical Academy for Life (#PAV), to be held in March 2027 under the theme “Unseen Wounds. Mental Suffering and Care”.

Through workshops drawing on psychiatry, sociology, philosophy, theology and major religious traditions, the Assembly will explore mental health in all its human and spiritual dimensions. The dialogue between these perspectives will provide a space to consider the experience of those living with mental suffering and the ways in which they can be supported.

The theme invites attention to wounds that may remain unseen, yet profoundly affect people’s lives and relationships. In the spirit of World Mental Health Day, the Assembly will offer an opportunity to deepen reflection on care, placing the person and their dignity at the centre.
