“Doctor Honoris Causa” to Abp. Vincenzo Paglia from Haxhi Zeka University
Vatican City, April 2, 2025. Today, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, attended the ceremony for awarding the title “Doctor Honoris Causa” to Abp. Vincenzo Paglia from Haxhi Zeka University, in appreciation for his contribution to promoting education, human rights and interfaith dialogue.
Gathering to honor Abp. Vincenzo Paglia, the great friend of our nation, Prime Minister Kurti recalled the period when he shed light on Kosovo and the painful events in the 1990s, when the country was subjected to systematic violence by Serbia.
“At that time, when the rest of the world was not paying much attention to Kosovo, Abp. Paglia brought it to the Pope’s attention. Abp. Paglia had arranged the first meeting of the then-president, Ibrahim Rugova, to meet with Pope John Paul II in March 1993. This meeting, in an essential way, turned a new page in the history of our country,” said the Prime Minister.
On the other hand, the Prime Minister underlined the fact that Abp. Paglia was fully committed to protecting the right to education of Albanian children, precisely at the time when the genocide in Kosovo by Serbian forces was at its peak.
