The first global campaign in favor of the role of Family Doctors kicks off on Thursday 16 November in the Vatican. The initiative, which has the slogan "Thank you, doctor" (thankyoudoctor.org), taking up a concern expressed on several occasions by Pope Francis, seeks to respond to the crisis in the healthcare system in many countries. The campaign is an initiative of the nonprofit medical association Somos Community Care, which brings together more than 2,200 doctors in New York to serve immigrant patients in particular, and is supported by the Pontifical Academy for Life, as well as other medical organizations , nursing, civic and academic.

The presentation press conference will take place on Thursday 16 November at the Pontifical Teutonic College in the Vatican. Participants include Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, president of the Pontifical Academy for Life, Monsignor Renzo Pegoraro, Chancellor of the same Vatican institution, Ramón Tallaj, president of the Somos association, Mario Paredes, CEO of the organization and Filippo Anelli, president of the National Federation of Italian Doctors.

Representatives of the Association of Catholic Doctors, nursing associations, as well as representatives of health institutions, hospitals and medical schools will also be present.

The healthcare system crisis in most countries often has a common cause: the lack of recognition of the primary care physician, also known as the family doctor.

To tackle this challenge, representatives from the health sector, civil society, and religious communities have united to draft the “Rediscover the Family Doctor” Declaration

a call to governments, public institutions, and health systems to reestablish the central role of the primary doctor.
